ANSES publishes its comments on the draft opinion of EFSA on bisphenol A

January 17, 2014, EFSA has put in consultation its draft opinion on the risks assessment of health associated with bisphenol A (BPA) for the human population. As part of this project, more than 450 studies on the potential risks of BPA to human health were analyzed. In response to this consultation, ANSES (National Health Security Agency) has autoinput on February 17, 2014 to analyze the main points of the draft opinion. The agency has published on April 7 the conclusions forwarded to EFSA. It highlights the major scientific work of EFSA by incorporating recent data and taking into account all exposure routes (oral and subcutaneous). However, limits were noted for taking into account the uncertainties in the work of EFSA and differences of interpretation in the analysis of available studies. Accordingly, the agency recommends harmonization of assessment methods toxicological studies on BPA by various European bodies by setting objective criteria.

The ANSES opinion is available on the website: Avis de l’ANSES en réponse à la consultation de l’EFSA sur son projet d’avis concernant l’évaluation des risques pour la santé humaine consécutifs à une exposition alimentaire au Bisphénol A
