EFSA announces the consultation of its draft opinion on BPA

EFSA launched since January 17, 2014 the consultation of its draft opinion on the assessment of health risks associated with exposure to bisphenol A (BPA). More than 450 scientific studies on the potential risks to the human population of BPA were examined. In this opinion, EFSA proposes a reduction of the acceptable daily dose taking into account the scientific complexity of this topic and the remaining uncertainties about a number of other health risks. In addition, the agency noted that exposure to BPA poses a low risk to consumer health. EFSA therefore request national agencies who worked on the BPA in order to collect their scientific feedback, and also put its draft opinion in public consultation with stakeholder until 13 March 2014. By this date, ANSES is committed to providing a detailed notice to the European authority.
