Inertness criteria to be met

- Kind of wood

- Oak, chestnut, ash tree, hornbeam, locust,  fir, spruce, Douglas, maritime pine, norway pine, poplar, beech, plane tree, aspen, alder, olive-tree, birch for all foodstuffs
- Beech wood, walnut tree, elm, poplar for solid food products

- Wood treatment 

- Absence of pentachlorophenol treatment (< 0,1 mg/kg of wood)
- Treatment products authorised for the packing material for fresh fruits and vegetables

 Order of15/11/1945 giving the list of materials suitable in the manufacture of measuring instruments and not having ill effect for public health

 Decree n°94-647 of 27/07/1994 relating to the placing on the market and the use of pentachlorophenol, cadmium and their compounds
